Group G. New Zealand vs Belgium. June 27, 2026 | BC Place, Vancouver | 03:00. FIFA World Cup 2026.

Vancouver hosts a match where Belgium can no longer hide behind their status as favorites. After two disappointing draws, 1-1 against Egypt and 0-0 with Iran, Rudi Garcia's side have left themselves with little margin for error heading into the final round. New Zealand are still alive as well, but after a 3-1 defeat to Egypt they need to play with more ambition than usual. Over 3 Goals at 1.92 looks like a natural betting angle because Belgium must chase the win, while the All Whites have already shown they can score but struggle to maintain defensive intensity over ninety minutes.

New Zealand

Darren Bazeley's team started the tournament in impressive fashion. Against Iran, New Zealand led twice and used Eli Just's movement to punish defensive mistakes. The final 2-2 draw, however, exposed a familiar weakness: the inability to control games once they gain an advantage. The pattern repeated against Egypt. New Zealand opened the scoring but could not cope with the increased tempo and individual quality of Mohamed Salah after halftime.

The squad still has a clear identity. Max Crocombe should expect another busy evening in goal, Michael Boxall remains important in aerial defending and physical duels, while Joe Bell is responsible for midfield balance and helping the team avoid giving the ball away too cheaply. Up front, Eli Just has already proved he can hurt opponents at this tournament. His movement into open spaces could become a problem for Belgium if their defensive line pushes too high.

The concern is sustainability. New Zealand often begin games with energy and courage but struggle to maintain compactness when facing prolonged pressure. Belgium are likely to dominate possession through Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Charles De Ketelaere, meaning another demanding defensive test awaits.

Belgium

Belgium have not looked like one of the tournament's heavyweights despite the quality available in the squad. Against Egypt, they dominated possession but only managed a draw. The performance against Iran was even more worrying. Belgium played against ten men after a red card but still failed to score, with Alireza Beiranvand emerging as the star of the match. That result creates enormous pressure heading into the final group game.

The individual quality is still there. Thibaut Courtois provides security in goal, Timothy Castagne adds experience and attacking support from full-back, and De Bruyne remains the key figure for final passes and shots from central areas. Youri Tielemans can progress the ball, De Ketelaere offers movement between the lines and Lukaku remains a major physical threat inside the box.

The issue has been attacking rhythm. Belgium have often moved the ball too slowly, allowing opponents to settle into low defensive blocks. But the tournament situation should force Garcia to take more risks. If Belgium score early, New Zealand will have no choice but to open up, creating the spaces that De Bruyne and the Belgian attackers have been missing in the first two matches.

Prediction

Over 3 Goals feels like a bet on both necessity and defensive vulnerability. Belgium have no option but to attack aggressively after two draws, while New Zealand cannot afford to spend the entire evening defending if they want to keep their hopes alive.

The Asian total also offers protection. Exactly three goals return the stake, while a fourth goal brings a full win. Belgium have enough talent to push the game close to that number on their own, but New Zealand have already shown they can contribute through Eli Just, set pieces and direct transitions. If the first goal arrives early, an open second half becomes a very realistic scenario.

Why This Match Could Open Up

Belgium are under significant pressure after failing to beat Iran. Garcia's team need more urgency, quicker attacks through De Bruyne and better service into Lukaku.

New Zealand scored twice against Iran and also found the opening goal against Egypt. They are not harmless going forward, but their defensive structure often fades after halftime.

Over 3 Goals comes with insurance if exactly three goals are scored. Considering Belgium's need for victory and New Zealand's likely aggressive approach, an open match script is easy to imagine.

Match Prediction: Over 3 Goals 1.92
