Software for sports betting
Betting software is easy to buy and often impossible to use without the right account.Software we’ve reviewed
Betaminic
A database of fourteen years of football odds with a filter tool on top. Build a betting rule, see what it would have earned, and check published strategies since the day they were shared.
The Staking Machine
Software that puts 50 staking plans on the same list of bets and shows what each one would have done to your money. It also reports your real edge, your break-even strike rate and whether your record is big enough to trust.
Sorting betting software by the account it needs
Betting software is easy to buy and often impossible to use without the right account. That question comes before features, before price, and almost no guide starts there.
Lists of the best betting tools usually rank the tool that owns the list. Most of them are also written for bettors in the United States. This page sorts software by what it asks of you before it does anything useful.
Three checks before buying betting software
Which account does it need? Some tools read only the numbers you give them. Others cannot start without an account at a betting exchange.
Which machine does it run on? Desktop programs are still common here, and most of them are Windows only.
What can you see for free? A free plan beats a discount. It tells you whether the tool fits before any money moves.
Software that needs no betting account
This is the group that works anywhere. It reads your bet history, or its own database, and never touches a bookmaker.
Staking and system analysis sits here. A staking plan is the rule that decides how much money goes on each bet. The Staking Machine applies about fifty staking plans to the same list of bets. We compared seven of them on a losing set of bets, and not one finished in profit.
Strategy backtesting sits here too. Backtesting means running a betting rule against past results to see what it would have earned. Betaminic holds fourteen years of football odds. The strategy we built there returned 22 percent on early years and lost money on later ones.
Both ran their whole test on a free plan. Neither asked for a betting account of any kind.
Two programs, two full tests, nothing paid and no betting account opened.
Trading software that needs an exchange account
Trading programs are the best known part of this market. Bet Angel, Geeks Toy, Gruss and BF Bot Manager all belong here.
They are built for a betting exchange, where you can bet against an outcome as well as on it. Prices move, and a trader closes a position for a profit before the match ends.
The account is the hard part. Exchanges are licensed in a short list of countries, so many readers cannot open one. That happened to us. The Bet Angel trial asks for exchange credentials. Our attempt came back as an error from the exchange, not the software.
Vendors sometimes suggest a rented server with a British address as a way around this. Residence decides who may hold an account, not the address your connection carries. That route risks checks, a frozen balance and a closed account with money inside it.
Prices here are low. Bet Angel sells day passes from 99 pence a day and a year at 149.99 pounds. The account is the part that stops people.
Bet Angel costs 99 pence a day. The account it needs is closed in most countries.
Betting bots for bookmakers do not exist
Betting exchanges publish an API, which is a documented way for a program to place bets. Ordinary bookmakers do not. Nothing official connects a program to your bookmaker account.
So anything sold as a bookmaker bot is one of three things. A script that clicks inside your browser, which breaks the terms you agreed to and gets accounts closed. A tool that only finds bets and leaves the placing to you. Or an outright scam.
Software that finds bets is real and useful. Our arbitrage scanner guide covers that group. Software that places them at a bookmaker is not a product, whatever a sales page says.
Free betting software and where it stops
Free plans in this market are real, and they differ more than the prices do.
The Staking Machine limits a free copy to ten bets. Its random data generator still built five hundred rows for our test, and every plan calculated on all of them.
Betaminic gives the whole strategy builder away and stops elsewhere. Free means one bet type, no picks and no saving. Its save button even asks you to confirm before the paywall appears.
Read what a free plan blocks, not what it offers. The blocked list is what the company sells.
Reading yield, drawdown and sample size
Every vendor shows results. Four checks tell you what they are worth, and all four apply to any tool on this page.
Sample size comes first. Yield is profit measured against everything you staked, and a yield of 20 percent over 200 bets means very little. Our Betaminic strategy produced exactly that by accident, on 260 bets.
Drawdown against profit comes second. Drawdown is the deepest fall from your highest point. Our Betaminic strategy ended 5 units up after falling 65 units.
The third check is the price the results assume. Betaminic measures every strategy at the closing line, the last price before kick-off. Its picks arrive a day or two earlier.
The fourth is the years the result covers. Any rule can be fitted to the past. Only its behaviour on later years says anything.
Any rule can be fitted to the past. Ask what it did in the years nobody was fitting.
The real cost of automated betting
Price lists hide the second and third purchase.
Automating The Staking Machine needs its own subscription, a second program called The Bet Machine, then Gruss and an exchange. Automating Betaminic means BF Bot Manager and the same exchange account.
Running a desktop program without leaving a computer on means renting a Windows server. Those start near 25 pounds a month. Bet Angel's cheapest server plus its annual licence comes to about 37 pounds a month. The licence is 12.50 of that.
This page is not a best betting software ranking
We have tested two programs. Ranking the rest from their sales pages is what the lists above us do. It is also why those lists disagree with each other.
Our bet tracker guide is built the same way. The Kelly criterion guide covers the staking maths no program can replace.
Pick by the account you can open, then by what the free version shows you. Price comes third, because a tool you cannot run is worth nothing at any price.
The tools we have tested
Two reviews so far, both hands-on, both on free plans. More will be added to this grid as they are tested, and untested tools will not appear in it.
